Delhi, 15th July 2022: The Delhi High Court has refused to grant abortion permission to a 25-year-old unmarried girl. Not only this, during the hearing of the case, the court commented that we will not allow the murder of the child. Instead, she can choose to adopt it.

Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma said, ‘Why do you want to kill a child before its birth? We suggest that there are many people wanting adoption in the country and you can choose them.”

The Chief Justice said that we do not force the girl to raise the child but she can go to a good hospital and give birth to the child till adoption.

The judge said, “We do not pressurize her to take care of the child. We will ensure that she goes to a good hospital to give birth to the child and come back. No one will even know about its identity.” Not only this, he even said that if the government does not bear the cost of the hospital bill, then he will pay the bill himself. The lawyer of the girl said that she is 23 weeks and 4 days pregnant and she is not married. In such a situation, if she gives birth to a child, then it will be difficult for her as it will not be good for society’s opinion as well.

The lawyer further said that the girl was not physically, mentally and financially able to give birth to a child. Apart from this, it will also be troublesome for her from the point of view of society. At the same time, the public prosecutor said that it would not be right to allow abortion. This is because the foetus is fully formed and almost ready to see the world. To this, the court also agreed and said that allowing abortion at this stage would be tantamount to killing the child.
