New Delhi, 15th June 2021: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted regular bail on the pleas of Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal along with Jamia Millia Islamia students Asif Iqbal Tanha, who was arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

The High Court granted regular bail to the three accused. They were arrested last year in the Delhi riots case.

During the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in February 2020, 53 people were killed and about 200 people were injured in the violence. Court has granted interim bail to Iqbal Tanha to continue his studies from June 13 to June 26. He will stay in a hotel in Delhi and prepare for his exam which will start from June 15. In fact, on Tuesday, the bench pronounced the verdict on the regular bail plea of accused Tanha.

During the protest against the National Citizenship Register and the Citizenship Amendment Act, there was a riot in North East Delhi in February 2020, in which hundreds of vehicles and some educational institutions were also set on fire. According to the police, Tanha’s role in the communal riots has come to the fore. He is one of the main conspirators of these riots.

A bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice AJ Bhambhani of the Delhi High Court in March reserved its verdict on the bail plea of Iqbal Tanha. Therefore he was denied bail by the lower court, however, on June 4, the Delhi High Court has granted two weeks interim bail to Iqbal Tanha.
