September 30, 2020: There was an uproar from Delhi to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh after the death of the rape victim of Boolgarhi, Chandpa. In Delhi, the body was sent to Hathras at around 9:30 pm yesterday after convincing the protesters. Police teams from several districts including Mathura, Agra, Aligarh, Etah were deployed in the village.

The body of the victim was brought to the village around 1 am by ambulance via the Yamuna Expressway. The commotion started as soon as the dead body arrived. The last rites were performed in the crematorium, about a kilometer from the house. When the ambulance moved the victim’s body towards the crematorium instead of the house, the anger of the family members erupted. The relatives of the victim and others lay in front of the ambulance. When police tried to remove them and they were handcuffed. Late night Divisional Commissioner GS Priyadarshi, IG Piyush Mordia, DM Praveen Kumar Laxkar, SP Vikrant Veer were engaged in explaining things to the family.

The family did not want to cremate the body at night, while the police wanted to cremate it immediately. After this, the victim was cremated at around 2:40 am without any custom and in the absence of family members. The gangrape victim’s uncle said that the police was pressurizing him to perform the last rites of the dead body. While the girl’s parents and brothers are not present, they are in Delhi and have not arrived yet. Asked not to perform the last rites at night and wait for the family, the police said that if you do not, we will do it ourselves.

The UP Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have termed this act of Uttar Pradesh Police as cowardice. Congress has written on its Twitter account – this is the extent of cruelty. At the time when the government should be sensitive, the government broke all limits of cruelty. Aam Aadmi Party has also put the video of the cremation on its Facebook page.
