New Delhi, 29th July 2021: More than six months have passed since the corona vaccination campaign started in the country and the meantime, the government has ordered 100 crore Corona vaccines. This information was given by the Minister of State for Health, Bharti Praveen Pawar while answering a question in the Rajya Sabha. Just two weeks ago, the government placed an order for 66 crore doses of Covishield and Covaccine. While answering the second question, Praveen said that at least 34 crore people in the country have received their first dose of the vaccine.

By July 16, the central government had ordered 100 crore vaccines for Corona. Pawar said that these vaccines do not include vaccines from Covax (a global vaccine collection initiative for different countries), nor do they include vaccines procured by the state, and also the doses ordered by private hospitals are not included.

Till March 12, the government had ordered only 18.6 crore doses, followed by 16 crores on May 5th. By the end of May, it had ordered 266 million doses of Covishield and 80 million doses of Covaccine.

Responding to a query seeking details of orders placed on foreign vaccine manufacturers, the minister said that the government had constituted a team to deal with various issues related to the procurement of COVID vaccines from foreign manufacturers and that “This team is constantly in talks with foreign manufacturers.”

In response to another question in the Rajya Sabha, Pawar said that according to the Covin portal, about 34.4 crore people have been given at least one dose of vaccine till July 25. At the same time, in this period, about 65.5% of people aged 18 years and above have also been given the second dose of the vaccine.
