New Delhi, 17th June 2021. Defence minister Rajnath Singh today reached Assam for his two-day tour. During his visit, he inaugurated 12 border roads constructed by Border Roads Organization (BRO).

“I am very happy to dedicate the 12 roads project constructed by BRO to the nation”, he said. He stated that the North-East did not develop for a long time. “The development that the North-East experienced under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot be appreciated enough”, he said.

He added that this area is of strategic importance. It shares borders with many nations. Along with development, it is also important from the point of view of security. These roads will also benefit local people. This is a part of the larger goal of our government under the ‘Act East Policy’, under which the government is giving a lot of emphasis on the overall development of the border areas. In the borders, a large number of strategically important bridges and roads have been completed.

Singh added that in the last seven years for the purpose of road projects and other infrastructural development, the budget for BRO has been increased three to four times. In the past seven years, the area has observed unprecedented improvement in its security. Insurgency related incidents have decreased by 85%, and the casualty of civilians and security personnel has decreased significantly.
