New Delhi, 28th June 2021: According to a report prepared by the Covid Cell Unit of the Ministry of External Affairs, the US and Kuwait had deported thousands of Indians who had completed their sentences of staying in the country illegally, during the last one year on special flights due to Corona.
The US and Kuwait alone sent back 4,000 people. Some Indians also returned from Amnesty flights. The report prepared by the Ministry of External Affairs said that work to bring back citizens stranded abroad due to pandemic had began since May 7th last year under the Vande Bharat Mission,
The report said, “These flights were mostly operated by the Kuwaiti government. Under this, people who were living illegally in the country even after the expiry of their visas, were sent to India. The Kuwait government paid for these amnesty flights and also indicated that these people may re-apply for work visas on their return to India”. At the same time, in another category of people returning to India, some were brought back to India after completing their prison sentence in another country.
