Udaiwala, 4th October 2022: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (Prisons) Hemant Lohia was brutally murdered at his residence here and police suspect his domestic help.
According to a senior police officer, the accused first strangled Lohia to death and later used a bottle to cut him. Police has started investigating the matter.
Dilbag Singh, Director General of Police termed it as a “very unfortunate” incident and said a search operation has been launched to catch the domestic helper named Jaseer, who is absconding. Singh told PTI that the suspect also tried to set the body of 57-year-old Lohia on fire.
Lohia was promoted and appointed as the Director General of Prisons of the Union Territory in August.
Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police (Jammu region) said, ” Lohia, 52, a 1992 batch IPS officer, was found dead at his Udaiwala residence on the outskirts of the city with his throat slit and burn marks on his body. Thr preliminary investigation at the spot indicated that Lohia may have applied some oil on his leg in which some swelling was visible.”
He said that the killer first strangled Lohia to death and then used a broken ketchup bottle to slit his throat and later tried to set the body on fire. The security personnel present at the officer’s residence noticed a fire inside Lohia’s room and they broke the door as it was locked from inside.
He added, “The J&K Police family expresses deep sorrow over the death of their senior officer.”
