Prayagraj, 10th May 2023: An online threat to avenge the murder of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed on Sunday prompted Prayagraj police to register a complaint. According to a police source, connections to the gangster Atiq Ahmed murder case are now being followed up in the Poonch district of Jammu & Kashmir. 23 alarming tweets have been sent out from Jammu and Kashmir in 23 days.

The unverified Twitter account has been identified as ‘The Sajjad Mughal,’ tweeting frequently about Atiq-Ashraf’s death. The constant tweets coming from close to the Pakistani border have also cautioned intelligence services.

Police learned that tweets sent from Kashmir’s Poonch district under the account ‘The Sajjad Mughal’ threatened to exact “revenge” for the assassination of gangster Atiq Ahmed. 23 tweets in 23 days from the same Kashmiri Twitter account have sparked a lot of discussion and apprehension. The probe will also investigate the tweet’s relationship to Pakistan. The police believed that those driving the protests against CAA-NRC in Prayagraj may have been involved in stirring up trouble.

“The race is not over yet. Atiq’s son Ali is still alive. Insha Allah circumstances, time, and government will change. The city will be called Allahabad. The revenge will be taken,” read the suspected tweet.

The investigation has revealed that the Twitter user is also a YouTuber. A lot of contentious videos have also been published on YouTube. Additionally, there is speculation that the threat-maker is an adherent of politician Asaduddin Owaisi and a member of his political party.

Following the Special DG Law and Order’s directives, a police report has been filed at the Cyber Cell police station under section 66 of the Information Technology (IT) Act 2008 and section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Gangsters Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf Ahmad were shot dead on April 15 night of this year in Prayagraj while being taken for a medical test by persons acting as journalists. After being shot at close range, both collapsed on the spot.

This recent tweet has reversed the presumptions made about his demise and stirred feelings of shock and worry. An inquiry is currently being conducted to determine Sajjad Mughal’s name and whereabouts as well as the authenticity of the threat.
