According to Assam minister Parimal Suklabaidya, around 80 people were injured in the firing by Mizoram. Suklabaidya said, “Six Assam Police personnel have been killed and around 80 people have been injured in the firing. There was no firing from our side. The firing was done from Mizoram like the firing done by the British in Jallianwala Bagh.”
The issue of Assam-Mizoram will be raised in Parliament today during the monsoon session. Congress Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi in Lok Sabha gave Adjournment Motion Notice to discuss the Assam-Mizoram border conflict. Congress, on the other hand, constituted a 7-member committee to visit Cachar and other areas to assess the violence. Assam Congress President Bhupen Bora will head the committee.
The Central Reserve Police Force has deployed two companies of CRPF (119 battalion in Assam and 225 battalion in Mizoram) at the Lailapur-Vairengte disputed site between Assam and Mizoram. CRPF ADG Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha informed that both the companies of CRPF from these two different battalions were already present with the police forces of Assam and Mizoram but they were neutral. A war of words broke out between Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and his neighboring Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma. Both blamed each other’s police for the violence and sought the intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Mizoram Home Minister Lalchmalliana on Monday claimed that around 200 Assam Police personnel forcibly crossed the border. In contrast, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday reported that six Assam Police personnel have lost their lives while guarding the state’s constitutional border on the Assam-Mizoram border.
