Madurai, 10th June 2021: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Executive Engineer, CPWD, Zonal Office, Madurai and two private persons in an alleged bribery case.

CBI has registered a case against an Executive Engineer, CPWD, Zonal Office, Madurai and others including two private persons (Proprietor/Contractor of private companies), on the allegations that the Executive Engineer conspired with the said contractors for receipt of illegal gratification of Rs 50,000 for clearing the bills of a private company and another Rs one lakh for the purpose of refunding the GST.

During the trap proceedings, an amount of Rs 70,000 was recovered from the public servant, which he had demanded & accepted from the said contractors. The public servant; the said contractor and representative of another contractor were caught. Searches were conducted at the premises of the Executive Engineer at Madurai which led to the recovery of cash of Rs 1,85,000 (approx) said to be kept in different covers and allegedly received by him from various other contractors.

The arrested persons have been identified as VL Bhaskar, Executive Engineer, CPWD, Zonal Office, Madurai; PN Sivasankar Raja, Proprietor of M/s. Brahma Developers and P Narayanan, representing M/s. S.K. Electricals, Chennai.

All the arrested accused were produced today before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Madurai and were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
