Chennai, 12th July 2021- These days nurses are protesting for government jobs in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. Hundreds of auxiliary nurses from across the state staged a protest demanding government jobs at the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services (DMRHS) at Teynampet in Chennai on Tuesday. During this, some nurses were detained by the police before entering the premises and they were kept in a marriage hall nearby. After this, hundreds of other nurses have sat on a dharna demanding government jobs after hearing about the detention of fellow protesters.

During this, a nurse said, ‘Those who completed the Nursing Assistant course were given government jobs by 2008 and we have not been given till 2021’. Another protesting nurse said that she is demanding fulfillment of the demand for inclusion as a nurse in government hospitals, which was promised in 2008.

He said that we had come to protest and attract the attention of the authorities. During this some of our colleges were detained by the Chennai Police before our protest. We are demanding their immediate release and joining us as nurses in government hospitals, he said.
