New Delhi, 5th May 2021: The union ministry of health and family welfare has reduced the number of days from 28 to 14 days before a person can donate blood after taking Corona vaccine.
Earlier the National Blood Transfusion council vide notification dated 5th March, 2021 had issued an advisory mentioning a deferral period of 28 days following Covid-19 vaccination for the purpose of Blood donation.
“In view of the fact that Govt. of India has recently made covid-19 vaccination available for all the general population above 18 years of age and the fact that so far no live attenuated vaccine has become available in the country an expert group was constituted under the chairmanship of DGHS, Dr. Sunil Kumar to review this advisory.
After detailed deliberations among the expert group, it has been decided to reduce the deferral period for Blood donors to 14 days after receiving each/any dose of the currently available Covid19 vaccines in the country subject to the condition that the donor conforms to the other norms for Blood donation. The said guidelines would be reviewed regularly as per the need”, states a letter from the ministry.
