New Delhi, 27th December 2021: Night curfew in Delhi will be effective from 11 pm tonight due to the rising cases of Covid-19 and the threat posed by the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

According to an order of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the movement of all those persons who do not fall in the exempted category will be restricted. The DDMA said that the night curfew will continue from 11 pm to 5 am till further orders.

Those exempted from the curfew include government officials, judges and judicial officers, medical workers, pregnant women and patients, people walking to buy essential goods, media persons and those going to or returning to railway stations, bus stands and airports.

The DDMA order states that only exempted category people will be allowed in metro trains and public transport buses during night curfew.

On Sunday, 290 cases of covid-19 were registered in Delhi when the infection rate stood at 0.55 percent.

According to the Phased Response Action Plan (GRAP), a ‘yellow alert’ is issued if the infection rate remains 0.5 per cent for two consecutive days. As soon as the ‘Yellow Alert’ is issued, all the restrictions including night curfew, closure of schools and colleges, halving the seating capacity of metro trains and buses, closure of non-essential shops and malls etc. come into force.

Delhi leads in Omicron cases, total number in India rises to 578

In India, the maximum number of 156 cases of Omicron variant have been reported in a day and with this, the number of people infected with this new variant of coronavirus in the country has increased to 578.

The Union Health Ministry said in the data released on Monday that out of 578 people infected with Omicron, 151 have been cured or have gone abroad These cases of Omicron infection have been reported in 19 states and union territories. Delhi has the highest number of 142, followed by 141 in Maharashtra, 57 in Kerala, 49 in Gujarat, 43 in Rajasthan and 41 in Telangana.
