Srinagar, 16th June 2021: A terrorist has been killed by the security forces out of the two to three terrorists hiding in Wagoora, Naugam, on the outskirts of Srinagar. The search for other terrorists is still on. During the search operation conducted by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans, the terrorists were cordoned off in Wagoora around Tuesday midnight.

After laying siege to the terrorist hideout, firing from both sides continued till late at night. The security forces gave the terrorists a chance to surrender several times, but the terrorists continued to fire in retaliation. A terrorist was killed by the security forces in the early hours today. After that firing stopped. The identity of  the terrorist is yet to be ascertained. Security forces have launched a search operation to find other terrorists.

The police had been tipped off on Tuesday evening that a group of terrorists was trying to enter Srinagar to carry out a major operation. According to police intelligence, the terrorists were seen in Wagoora, about 12 km from Lal Chowk after which the police, along with the Army and CRPF, launched an operation to nab them. During the siege, the terrorists hiding in a house opened fire on them and the soldiers retaliated.

Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Kashmir Zone, said, “The number of terrorists could be two to three. Terrorists hiding in the house kept firing even after multiple attempts to make them surrender were made .”
