New Delhi, 12th May 2021: The second wave of corona in India has taken an explosive form. The corona form found here is now found in other countries of the world as well.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday that a variant of the corona that has worsened the situation in India has been found in dozens of countries around the world. The United Nations Health Agency said that the B.1.617 variant of the Corona was found in India in October last year. Now, this variant has been found in 44 countries in all 6 regions of WHO.
Outside India, most cases of this variant have come to light in the UK. Earlier this week, the WHO announced B.1.617 which is considered a “type of concern” due to its mutations and characteristics. So it was first added to the list of three other variants of the Covid-19 in the UK, Brazil, and South Africa.
Variants are seen as more dangerous than the original version of the virus because they are either becoming more transmissible or deadly. The WHO said Wednesday that B.1.617 was added to the list because it appears to be more easily transmitted than the original virus.
The WHO also pointed to “preliminary evidence” that the variant was more resistant to treatment with monoclonal antibody Bamlanivimb and also highlighted preliminary laboratory studies indicating “limited reduction in reduction by antibody”.
The number of new cases of coronavirus in the country has been declining for the past one or two days, but the rising death toll is still a source of tension. Corona deaths in India have broken all records so far and this is the first time that 4200 people have lost their lives in a single day in the country. The number of new cases of coronavirus infection in India increased to 3.48 lakh and with this, the total number of cases of infection in the country increased to 2,33,40,428.
According to the Ministry of Health, 3,48,529 new cases of infection emerged in the last 24 hours and the total death toll rose to 2,54,227 after 4,200 more people died. After a continuous increase for two months, the number of cases under treatment has come down to 36,99,665, which is 16.16 percent of the total cases of infection, while the recovery rate of infected people is 82.75 per cent.
