Mumbai, 31st July 2023: A tragic shooting incident occurred on the Jaipur-Mumbai Express early this morning, resulting in the death of four individuals, including an Assistant Sub Inspector. The shooting was carried out by a Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan.
Sumit Thakur, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, provided initial information about the incident to a news channel. However, the full details of the incident are yet to be confirmed.
As per the preliminary information, one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and three passengers were shot. The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Borivali for postmortem examinations. The medical condition of other passengers is also being assessed and will be reported shortly.
The constable responsible for the shooting disembarked the train at Dahisar after pulling the emergency chain. He was apprehended by the RPF police and has been placed under arrest. The authorities are currently conducting further investigations to determine if the constable was under mental stress or other factors contributed to the incident.
The tragic event occurred between 5:30 and 6:00 in the morning. Officials will conduct inquiries with the families of the deceased passengers to gather more information about their identities.
The arrested jawan is currently being interrogated, but no information has been obtained from him yet. Thakur assured that passenger safety remains a top priority, and the train has reached Mumbai Central station with the rest of the passengers safely released.
