New Delhi, 30th June 2021: Trouble for Twitter in India refuses to end with two fresh cases being filed against the micro-blogging site by Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police. Two cases have been registered against Twitter on Tuesday. Delhi Police has registered a case against Twitter for not removing obscene content related to children, while UP Police has registered a case against Twitter for showing Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh out of the map of India.

This case has been registered by Delhi Police on the complaint of the National Commission for Protection of Child. The commission had filed a complaint against Twitter to the Delhi Police on May 29, alleging that it did not remove child pornographic material. Earlier, the Ghaziabad Police had registered a case against Twitter in connection with the video related to the beating of an elderly man.

At the same time, lawyer Praveen Bhati, a resident of Khurja Nagar in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh has filed a case at Khurja Kotwali Nagar police station, in which he has mentioned showing Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh out of the map of India by Twitter. He said that the sentiments of the public have been hurt by this act.

He has filed a case against Twitter Managing Director Manish Maheshwari and India Head Amrita Tripathi alleging tampering with the map. Praveen Bhati is also the co-convener of Uttar Pradesh Bajrang Dal. Khurja CO Suresh Singh said that investigation is being done by registering a case under relevant sections.

Amidst the ongoing standoff with the Indian government over compliance with new information technology (IT) rules, Twitter’s website was showing a distorted map of India, showing Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as a separate countries. Following massive protests, Twitter on Monday removed the distorted map showing Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh outside India from its website.
