Delhi, 20th September 2022: Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal on Tuesday wrote to Delhi Police and Twitter demanding action on child pornography. She said that some of its related videos were sold on Twitter for Rs 20, and the social media platform failed to remove these posts. Maliwal said Twitter and Delhi Police have been given time till 26th September to respond to the summons.

Maliwal wrote on Twitter, “Thousands of people have shared recordings of young girls being raped. Videos of women bathing are being posted through intelligence cameras. These companies follow laws abroad, and turn a blind eye to the vulgarity and rape of women in India.” She questioned Twitter about how such videos exist on the platform and what its policies for displaying content were. Maliwal has asked the Delhi Police to register an FIR to identify the victims and accused along with those involved in filming and uploading the videos.

Maliwal further said, “The Chandigarh University incident got me thinking, and I have asked my team to investigate. We found videos of minor girls being raped on Twitter. Some platforms shared these videos and were selling them for Rs 20 to Rs 30. It’s terrible.”

Significantly, protests erupted on the campus of Chandigarh University in Punjab’s Mohali on Saturday night after reports that a woman allegedly taped objectionable films of several students and shared them with others. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ordered an inquiry. Four arrests have been made in the case so far. However, the allegations have not been proved.
