Patna, 23 April 2021: A major mishap has taken place in the state capital Patna today Friday. A pickup van plunged into the Ganga.

As per the district administration, around 5-6 people were in the van and out of this, the dead bodies of three people have been rescued. The locals say at least 10 people were in the van.

The rescue operation was done by SDRF and NDRF with the help of local residents. The bodies of nine people have so far been recovered from the Ganges. Out of this six were from Chhapra and three were from Bhojpur.

The accident took place on the Pipa Pul located at Danapur. The rescue team reached the spot about two and a half hours late after the accident. After nearly three hours of effort, the divers found the vehicle.

MP Ramkripal Yadav and Danapur MLA Reetlal Yadav also reached the spot. It is being said that about 10 people, including children and women, were in the van. Two people were also sitting on the roof of the vehicle, who jumped and saved their lives.

According to witnesses, the pickup van passing through the bridge suddenly fell into the Ganga.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep condolences on this accident. The Chief Minister has directed to give an ex-gratia grant of Rs 4 lakh each to the dependents of the deceased in this accident.
