Madhya Pradesh, 16 July 2021: In Madhya Pradesh’s Ganjbasoda in Vidisha district, several people standing on its bund to rescue a girl who had slipped into a well suddenly fell into the well and got buried under the debris. So far four have died out of them, 19 people have been evacuated safely and the rescue work is going on since midnight. Instructions have been given to conduct a high-level inquiry into the incident. However, it is not yet known how many people are trapped under the debris. The well is about 50 feet deep and water is said to be about 20 feet in it.

Two people who were rescued told the media that the accident happened while rescuing a girl who fell in the well. Some people got down in the well to save her, while about 40-50 people stood on the ridge and roof of the well to help and watch. Meanwhile, the roof of the well collapsed, causing around 25-30 people to fall into the well. About 12 people, including both of them, were pulled out of the well with the help of ropes and rescued by the villagers present there. Both have suffered minor injuries.

According to the people present there, a tractor engaged in rescue work also fell in this well at around 11 PM, due to which some people including four policemen also fell in this well. Out of these, three policemen and some others have been evacuated safely. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed senior officials to carry out immediate relief and rescue operations in connection with the incident. Chouhan spoke to the Collector and Superintendent of Police present at the spot and inquired about the incident and was instructed to carry out the rescue operation at a fast pace.

He said that teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and necessary equipment are being transported from Bhopal for relief and rescue work. The Chief Minister is personally supervising the ongoing relief and rescue operations at the spot. Chouhan directed for a high-level inquiry into the incident and to provide all possible medical assistance to the victims. Meanwhile, Vinayak Verma, Superintendent of Police of Vidisha district, who reached the spot, said, “All I can say for now is that the rescue operation is going on”
