Deoria, Uttar Pradesh – The state government on Thursday sent a letter to the Union Home Ministry to get the CBI investigate the case sexual exploitation of women living in protection homes in Deoria. The CBI investigation will mainly focus on two FIRs already filed. Police have already arrested Girija Tripathi, director of the woman’s shelter home, and her husband Mohan Tripathi, besides their associates.
After the directive of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Home Department was involved in preparing the recommendation letter for the well-known Deoria case to be probed by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). It was further expedited after the High Court’s decision to monitor the CBI investigation.
Meanwhile, the SIT has also begun its work to allow the case to be examined by the CBI till the CBI takes over the case and the evidence does not get tampered with. The SIT includes ADG crime Sanjay Singhal in SIT, SP Poonam in PTS Meerut and SP Bharti Singh in EOW. The STF is also assisting the SIT team.
Apart from this, the role of local police is also being looked into as the shelter home continued to function even after its license was canceled. This investigation is being done by ADG (Gorakhpur) Daba Sherpa.
