Army Medical Corps (AMC) is celebrating its 255th Anniversary at Headquarters Southern Command Pune on 03 Apr 2019.
The Corps has come a long way from its modest beginning as the Bengal Medical Service on January 1, 1764, to become a comprehensive medical service in the country providing health services to the servicemen, veterans and their dependents. The Corps has come to its present form on 03 April 1943.
AMC is the largest organised Government medical service provider spread over the entire length & breadth of the country with over 200 hospitals and 45,000 hospital beds.
The corps has a glorious history of serving the Indian Armed Forces in war and peace as well as in missions abroad. The Corps has evolved bounds and has kept pace with newer technologies currently in use.
Various hospitals are undergoing modernization such as Military Hospital Jodhpur, Military Hospital Kirkee & Command Hospital (Southern Command) and they are at various stages of completion.
The Army Medical Corps in Southern Command has been in the forefront of rendering yeoman service to the citizens during disasters and natural calamities like recent Floods in Kerala. It also provides quality medical care to veterans and their families.
On this occasion, Lieutenant General SK Saini, AVSM, YSM, VSM, Army Commander, Southern Command, appreciated the services rendered by AMC in looking after troops, veterans and their families and rendering medical services to the distressed population during natural calamities with dedication and sincerity.
