Vishakhapatnam – The 26th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Governing Council Meeting(GCM) of Navy Foundation (NF) was held at Swarn Jyothi Auditorium, Visakhapatnam under the chairmanship of Admiral Sunil Lanba, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff on Sunday, 11 March 18. Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar, Controller Personnel Services, Integrated Headquarters Min. of Defence (HQMoD) (Navy), delegates from IHQMoD(N) and other Commands attended the meeting in addition to Presidents/Secretaries of 15 Chapters of Navy Foundation spread across the country. A large number of local veterans along with their spouses were also present for the AGM. Various welfare schemes applicable to the naval veterans including new developments in pension matters as well as Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) were discussed during the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the CNS thanked the veterans for laying rock solid foundations of the Navy and updated them on the developments over the last year as also the prognosis for the near future. He also felicitated the octogenarians and called upon the veterans to continue to be the brand ambassadors of the Indian Navy to take the Service closer to the people and draw in the best talent to join the Navy.

The Navy Foundation was established on 28 Dec 1988 with the aim of maintaining contact and fraternal relationship between naval veterans. The Navy Foundation also carries out social, philanthropic, cultural, educational and other activities for the benefit of the retired fraternity. The Navy Foundation which had six charters at inception, now has 15 charters viz. Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kerala (Kochi), Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Odisha (Bhubaneswar), Pune and Vizag.
